HYDROSEED CARE & MAINTENANCE
With consistent watering and proper care, you can expect to see germination begin within 10–14 days. Your lawn should be ready for its first mow around 5–8 weeks, and fully established within 6–9 months. The green dye is temporary; it naturally fades within 1–5 days and is completely normal. Please limit foot traffic on newly seeded areas for the first 6 weeks to give the seed the best chance to take root.
It's common for some areas to fill in faster than others early on; this is simply due to variations in sun exposure, shade, and water distribution. Around 4–5 weeks, once the lawn begins to thicken, go back and hand-seed any thin patches. A mix of fescue, rye, and Kentucky bluegrass (sold as "Metro Mix" at SiteOne Landscape Supply) works well for this.
WATERING INSTRUCTIONS
-Water 3 times per day for 10–20 minutes per session
-Best times: 4:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 4:00 PM — avoid watering after dark
-The goal is to keep the soil consistently moist, not soaking wet. Never allow standing pools of water to form
-You can adjust frequency slightly for the season: more in summer heat, less in cooler fall weather
-After 4–6 weeks, begin scaling back your watering as the lawn becomes established
-We are not responsible for bare spots caused by lack of watering*
MOWING
Plan for your first mow approximately 5 weeks after your hydroseed application. Before mowing, hold off on watering for a few days to let the soil firm up. Always mow when the grass is dry and use a push mower to minimize disruption to new seedlings. Leave clippings on the lawn, but break up or remove any large clumps as they can smother new growth.
Never let the lawn get too tall before mowing. If it has gotten overgrown, don't cut it all the way down at once. Take no more than 1/3 of the height per session and wait 2–3 days between cuts until you've brought it back to around 3 inches.
FERTILIZING
Apply starter fertilizer 4–6 weeks after your hydroseed application to support root development and encourage healthy growth. Once the lawn is more mature, a weed control fertilizer can be applied, but wait at least 10–12 weeks before doing so. Note that some weed growth is possible and is not covered under any guarantee.
WASHOUT POLICY
If your hydroseed is washed away due to rain or other circumstances, we'll return to respray the affected area at 50% of the original cost. Keep in mind that faded dye is not washout. The color naturally disappears within 1–5 days after application.
